Little League’s Southeastern Region has nominated one of its volunteers for election to the Little League International Board of Directors, it was announced by Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer of Little League Baseball and Softball. The election took place at the Southeastern Regional Round Table meeting last weekend in Charlotte, N.C.

Linda North, of Peachtree City, Ga., will replace Paul Flanagan, from Sophia, W. Va., on the board, subject to the approval of the 25-member Little League International Board of Directors at its spring meeting in May. If approved, Mrs. North will be seated on the Little League International Board of Directors at its November 2012 annual meeting.

Each of the nine Field Directors on the board, one from each of the nine Little League Baseball and Softball regions, serves a three-year term.

“Mrs. North has been a committed Little League volunteer leader for many years,” Mr. Keener said. “She has been successful in building new, and overseeing existing programs in her area as the District Administrator. The diversity of her experience and background will be a great asset to our board.”

Mrs. North has been associated with Little League in numerous capacities for 27 years. She started volunteering with the Peachtree City (Ga.) Little League in 1987 serving as the Concessions Manager. Mrs. North then spent one year as the Secretary of the league before chairing the Auxiliary Committee for one season. In 1994, she became the President of the Peachtree City American and National Leagues, serving nearly 1,400 players for three years.

Mrs. North then spent one year as an Assistant District Administrator before assuming her current position as the Georgia District Administrator for District 4 where she provides guidance to 12 chartered leagues. Her district has teams in all divisions of play in baseball and a growing number of participants in softball. In 2004, the Peachtree City Little League became the first Little League Challenger Division program with a synthetic surface field.

The mother of one son, Mrs. North has been married to husband, John, for 38 years. Mrs. North has received numerous local awards including the 2006 Fayette (Ga.) Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year and in 2010 she was recognized with the Daughters of the American Revolution Excellence in the Community Service Award while also being selected as the Fayette Woman magazine Woman of the Month for July.

Additionally, Mrs. North served on the Little League International Advisory Board from 2005 to 2008 and in 2007 she received the Little League Baseball and Softball Meritorious Service Award at the Little League International Congress in Houston, Texas. She also has served on the Southeastern Region Advisory board since 2005.

“Little League has been an important part of my life for many years and I enjoy bringing the Little League experience to an ever-increasing number of children,” Mrs. North said. “The values that are the heart and soul of the Little League program mean as much today to our leagues and parents as they did 70 years ago. That makes it easy to excite people about the fact this is a program for all the boys and girls in their community, whatever their abilities, and that it is run by volunteers at the local and district levels. I am proud to be a part of this organization.”

In 2011, in the Southeastern Region, there were 322,230 Little League baseball and softball players on 21,482 teams in eight states. The Little League Southeastern Region Headquarters is located in Warner Robins, Ga.

The Little League International Board of Directors, a volunteer board, is responsible for the management of the property and affairs of Little League.
