LexisNexis Background Checks Once Again Satisfy Little League International’s Background Check Regulation

As of 8 a.m. Eastern U.S. Time on Feb. 14, 2012, background checks conducted through LexisNexis once again meet Little League International’s background check regulation (Regulation I [c] [8] and [9]).

In November 2011, Little League International informed its local leagues that because of recent changes in several states’ positions regarding availability of sex offender registry information, checks conducted exclusively through LexisNexis did not satisfy the regulation.

As always, local Little Leagues and districts in the U.S. are required to, at a minimum, perform a check that covers the Sex Offender Registries of all U.S. states/territories, for certain personnel in the league, as noted in the regulations. Again, LexisNexis satisfies Little League International’s background check regulation (Regulation I [c] [8] and [9]). To access LexisNexis, click here.

As a currently-chartered league, Little League International provides the first 125 background checks conducted through LexisNexis free, with each additional check costing $1 per check.

Many local leagues have already begun play and many others will open their seasons soon, so let this e-mail also serve as a reminder of those volunteers that require a background check be completed in compliance with Little League Regulation I [c] [8] and [9].

Below are samples of positions your league may have to conduct background checks on if active in your league per Regulation I [c] [8] and [9]:

  • Managers
  • Coaches
  • Practice Coaches
  • Board Members
  • Umpires
  • Misc. positions
    • Equipment manager
    • Field maintenance
    • Scorekeeper
    • Announcer
    • General volunteer
    • Concession worker
    • Team Parent
