The Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum, in conjunction with Dr. Neil Boyd’s business class at Lycoming College, is inviting local Cub Scouts to “Sunday Funday Field Day” which will be held Nov. 13 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Sunday Funday Field Day is organized by students in Dr. Boyd’s business class. Every year, non-profit organizations are chosen to participate with the class as the students plan and execute a fundraising event for them. This year, Platinum Consulting, the temporary consulting group set up by a student group in the class, is working with the Little League Museum to develop and execute the “Sunday Funday Field Day” program.

“Having the opportunity to work with the Little League Museum and execute a community event is allowing us to see what life after graduation will be like,” Danielle Biacchi, a member of Platinum Consulting, said. “It’s important to be able to take the concepts and strategies we’ve learned from textbooks and put them to use in a real-life scenario.”

As part of the “Sunday Funday Field Day,” the Scouts will take part in a scavenger hunt to learn about the rules and history of Little League Baseball and Softball, design their own baseball card, and meet other Scouts. Other activities at the event, including batting practice at the indoor cages and timed sprints, may assist the Scouts in meeting the requirements for the Baseball Belt Loop. The event will come to a close with an award ceremony, prize drawing, and snacks.

“The museum is pleased to work with Lycoming students to offer Sunday Funday to Cub Scouts,” Janice L. Ogurcak, Museum Director, said. “It will acquaint them with the values of Little League Baseball and Softball, as well as provide a great experience. This is the third year the museum has worked with the students. They also have improved our birthday party package and developed an ongoing program for Girl Scouts.”

There is a fee of $7 per participant for the afternoon’s events. Pre-registration is required by Nov. 2. There are a limited number of spots available and they will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Each Pack must provide adequate leadership for the afternoon.

Any local Cub Scout leader, who is interested in bringing your Pack to the Sunday Funday Field Day event or needs more information about the event, should contact Grace Gargiulo at: gargrac@lycoming.edu.

The Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum, located at 525 Route 15 Highway in South Williamsport, Pa., is currently open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on other days by appointment.
