Little League Museum Holiday Hours; Toys for Tots Offer Winding Down
The holidays will soon be here and the Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum will operate under special hours. Additionally, time is running out for its Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots promotion.
Each visitor who brings a new, unwrapped toy with a value of at least $10 will receive one free admission to the museum as a gift for supporting the local Toys for Tots program. Qualifying visitors also will receive a 10 percent discount on items purchased at the museum’s store.
”The drive helps make Christmas a little brighter for many children in Lycoming County whose families are in need,” Charles E. Smith, Toys for Tots Coordinator for Lycoming County for the Williamsport Detachment Marine Corps League, said. Donors deserve a great big thank you, he emphasized.
“This is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to receive free admission to the museum with their generosity helping make the holidays a little better for many area families,” Janice L. Ogurcak, Director of the Little League Museum, said.
Toys collected at the museum for Toys for Tots will be given to the American Rescue Workers and the Salvation Army for local distribution in Williamsport, South Williamsport and Loyalsock Township. Other collection points distribute toys to other areas.
Mr. Smith said checks or money orders, made payable to “Toys for Tots,” are tax deductible. “What is collected locally stays locally.”
The final day to qualify for the incentives at the museum is Saturday, Dec. 17, although toys will be accepted through Monday, Dec. 19. The museum has participated in the program since 2006.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. However, it will close at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, 2012.
