Sisters Logan and Regan Green combined on a four-hitter for Delaware District 3 representative Laurel Little League, which defeated Latin America’s ASOFEM Little League from Puerto Rico, 2-0, in the 2011 Senior League Softball World Series Championship Game played Saturday in Lower Sussex, Del.

In the bottom of the first inning, Laurel Little League’s Alyssa Givens, Bethany Wheatley and Sara Jo Whaley each singled to load the bases. Bree Venables was hit by a pitch from losing pitcher Michelle Rivera, pushing home Givens with a run that proved to be the game winner.

The Greens, highlighted by starter Logan’s three no-hit innings, made Delaware District 3’s 1-0 hold up. Logan hit here spots and changed locations to keep ASOFEM Little League guessing. When Regan took over at pitcher, she picked up the pace to close out the win.

Laurel Little League, which tacked on an insurance run by way of a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning, finished the World Series unbeaten (5-0), winning its first World Series championship.

Delaware had won the Senior League Softball World Series on one other occasion, as Stanton-Newport Little League from Wilmington earned the 1999 World Championship.
