Little League International and the Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum will open its doors to the public for free tours and other events Saturday, June 18, in recognition of National Little League Week.

The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the open house with admission free all day.
In June 1959, U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the proclamation designating National Little League Week, as the week of Flag Day, which is June 14. Flag Day was formally established by President Harry S. Truman to commemorate the date of the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States in 1777.

The museum will host activities throughout the day.

Robin Van Auken, author of “Images of Sports: The Little League Baseball World Series,” will be available to autograph the pictorial paperback.

She and her husband, Lance Van Auken, co-authored “Play Ball: The Story of Little League Baseball,” which is considered the most comprehensive history of the largest youth sport in the world.

In all, Mrs. Van Auken has written or co-authored 10 books of regional history. The historical author and archaeologist and adjunct instructor at Lycoming College, will be at the museum from noon to 3 p.m.

The open house will offer Little League fans a chance to get an inside look at the Little League experience. A guided tour and walking tours of the Little League Museum and the Little League International complex will include a trip through the Dr. Creighton J. Hale International Grove, home to the players during the annual Little League Baseball World Series, and Howard J. Lamade and Volunteer Stadiums, where the World Series games are played.

Dugout, Little League’s official mascot, will be available for photographs throughout the day.

Guided tours of the museum will be held at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Self-guided museum tours may be taken throughout the day. The guided, behind-the-scenes tours of the Little League International complex are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. beginning at the museum. Self-guided walking tour maps of the complex will also be available. Visitors wishing to take the outdoors tours should dress appropriately for the weather.

During the open house, monetary donations are welcome with all proceeds benefitting exhibit improvements at the Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum. The museum is located at 525 Route 15 Highway, in South Williamsport.

The museum is open Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday starting May 29.

Effective July 1, the Museum will be open seven days a week until Labor Day. The hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
