Little League Museum Hosting Several Events During World Series

The Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum will be hosting several events during the upcoming Little League Baseball World Series, including several showings of the movie, The Perfect Game. The 65th Little League Baseball World Series will be played Aug. 18-28.

The Perfect Game, a feature film based on the extraordinary true story of the 1957 Monterrey Industrial Little League Baseball team, opened in April 2010, and centers on the first International team to win the Little League Baseball World Series.

The movie will be shown in the Mary C. McGovern Theatre at the museum every day between Aug. 20-28, at various times (please see the Museum schedule during the World Series at the end of this release).

Ryan Ochoa, who portrayed one of the Monterrey players in the movie, will be signing autographs at the Museum on Aug. 20, from 4-6 p.m.

There will be two book signings at the Museum during the World Series, including one on Aug. 20, by former Major League outfielder, Brian Jordan. The 15-year professional baseball veteran will be signing copies of his book “Overcoming the Fear of the Baseball” between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

On Aug. 27, authors Peter Fertig and Rudy Saviano will be available to sign their book, “The Deal is on Strike Three.” From 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will have a presence at the Museum during the World Series again this year as Dr. Jitendra Joshi, a Chief Technologist for NASA, will give a speech on “Living in Space: Lessons for Living on Earth.” His one-hour presentation will begin at 2 p.m. on Aug. 25.

NASA also will have a display that includes a five-screen exploration experience, Robonaut 2, the first humanoid robot in space, the astronaut suit of Little League Hall of Excellence member Dr. Story Musgrave, and Mark III, a NASA space suit technology demonstrator, inside the museum.

Visitors to the museum can still see the ”Diamonds to Gridirons: Little Leaguers in the NFL” exhibit. The newest exhibit at the museum was unveiled in June and includes more than 50 pieces of professional football history.  All of the pieces are memorabilia of NFL players who are Little League graduates. Most of the items are on loan to the museum from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. There also are pieces from the Little League Museum archives, The Hall at Patriot Place by Raytheon, the Denver Broncos and private collections.

The Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum, located at 525 Route 15 Highway, is currently open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

For more information on the museum’s programming, contact Mrs. Janice Ogurcak, the museum director, at (570) 326-3607. Admission to the museum is $5 for anyone 14 and older; $1.50 for children ages 5-13; and $3 for senior citizens (62 and over).  Children age 4 and younger are admitted free of charge.
