The Sixth Annual Western Region Challenger Jamboree was held recently at the Dublin (Calif.) Sports Complex.

The event welcomed more than 350 participants representing 30 teams from throughout Little League’s Western Region. This year’s event exceeded the 2009 Jamboree’s player total by more than 100 participants, representing an increase of nearly 10 teams.

“The 2010 Western Region Challenger Jamboree was once again a great success,” Sam Ranck, Director of the Little League Challenger Division, said. “Dave Wetmore, California District 57 Administrator, as well as the Jamboree Committee did a great job with this event. There were representatives from a number of Little League programs present that said after seeing how much the players enjoyed participating in the Jamboree, that their leagues would be bringing teams to the event in 2011.”

Games were played throughout Saturday, as each team played one game. In the evening, some teams attended the San Francisco Giants-Arizona Diamondbacks Major League Baseball game at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Other activities away from the field entertained the players and their families, including face painting, a picnic, and a trip to a nearby bowling alley.

“It was great to see so many additional players enjoying the opportunity to participate in this year’s Jamboree,” Mr. Ranck said. “Regional Jamborees such as this one are great events because they give Challenger Division participants the opportunity to enjoy a tournament-style atmosphere and the opportunity to play with other teams from across the region. We are looking forward to another successful and even larger event next year.”
