Stephen R. Barr has been named Director of Media Relations for Little League Baseball and Softball, it was announced today by Stephen D. Keener, Little League President and Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Barr, a native of Clyde, Ohio, joins the Little League organization after working in the Communications Department at Bowling Green (Ohio) State University (BGSU), where he was the Athletic Communications Assistant. In that role, he was responsible for all public and media relations, and communications for the university’s ice hockey and baseball programs. Mr. Barr was BGSU Sports Information Director for 10 years (1990-2000).

“Steve joined the Little League family just prior to this year’s World Series,” Mr. Keener said. “As was evident during the World Series, Steve’s extensive background in media and public relations, will serve our program well. We welcome him into the Little League International Communication Division and look forward to him representing our organization as a spokesperson.”

Mr. Barr will address many of the media-related inquiries that come to Little League International, a responsibility formerly managed by Chris Downs, who has assumed the title of Director of Publicity.

A graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Sports Management, Mr. Barr has worked in the communications and public relations field for more than 20 years. He has been the Sports Information Director at Lake Superior State University in Michigan, and at the California State University-Dominguez Hills campus, has served as Communications Manager for Wood County (Ohio) Hospital, and as Assistant Venue Press Chief with the U.S. Olympic Committee during the 1984 Summer Olympics.

Mr. Barr and his wife, Cindy, have two daughters, Ashley (23) and Kristen (20).
