MLB World Series Trophy Coming to Eastern Region Headquarters
BRISTOL, Conn. (Aug. 6, 2008) -- Injecting even more excitement to the Little League Baseball New England and Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournaments this week at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center in Bristol, Conn., the Boston Red Sox are sending their 2007 World Series Trophy to the Giamatti Center so that the state champions can get a first-hand look.
The trophy is coming from Fenway Park in Boston on Thursday, and will be in Bristol just long enough for all of the players to view it.
“The Red Sox front office wanted to do something special for these historic telecasts by Little League’s newest broadcast partners, NESN and MSG,” Don Soucy, Little League Eastern Region Director, said. “We’re honored to host the trophy here, and we’re grateful to the Red Sox, NESN, and MSG for making it happen. I know the players will be thrilled. Most players who have their pictures taken with the World Series Trophy are Major League players, but the Boston Red Sox will make it happen for Little Leaguers.”
Earlier this year, Little League International formed the unique partnership with the New England Sports Network (NESN) and the Madison Square Garden network (MSG) to televise the New England and Mid-Atlantic Little League Baseball regional tournaments. The partnership marks the first time that regional sports networks have combined production resources to deliver live coverage of Little League Baseball.
The two networks have the exclusive rights to televise the Little League Baseball regional tournament games from Bristol, Conn., with the exception of the respective regional Championship Games, which will be televised on the ESPN family of networks. The schedule of all Little League Baseball regional games can be found here:
The Commissioner's Trophy is awarded each year by Major League Baseball to the team winning the World Series. It features 30 flags representing the 30 National League and American League teams. It was created by Tiffany & Co., is 24 inches tall, excluding the base, and 11 inches around. It weighs approximately 30 pounds and is made of sterling silver.
