Little League Recognizes 2007 Awards Program Recipients
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Aug. 29, 2007) – Annually, Little League Baseball and Softball conducts awards recognition programs that highlight and acknowledge the importance of Little League volunteers, current players and graduates who have made significant contributions toward the promotion of the ideals and goals of Little League.The 2007 Little League Awards Program was conducted with the support of AIG Insurance as sponsors. Nominations were made by local leagues submitting award recipients directly to Little League International for consideration as national-level honorees. In 2007, award recipients were honored at the Little League Baseball World Series Awards Breakfast at the Genetti Hotel and Convention Center, in Williamsport, Pa. They also were recognized at Howard J. Lamade Stadium during the 61st Little League Baseball World Series ceremonies.
The 2007 Little League Award Program honorees:
• The George and Barbara Bush Little League Parent of the Year Award –
Gene and Dori Bonderman; parents of Detroit Tigers pitcher Jeremy Bonderman
• Good Sport Award – Riley MacKnight, South Side American Little League, Syracuse N.Y.
• Volunteer of the Year Award – Kenny Mull, Mountaineer Little League, Waynesville, N.C.
• Bill Shea Distinguished Little League Graduate Award – Minnesota Twins outfielder Torii Hunter, graduate of Pine Bluff (Ark.) American Little League
• Mom of the Year – Michelle Foglia, Easthampton Little League, Montawk, N.Y.
• Howard and Gail Paster Urban Initiative Volunteer of the Year Award –
Dr. Wilford Weber (posthumous), Neartown Little League; Houston, Texas
• Challenger Award – Dr. Darrell Burnett, California District 55
