Participation Up in 8 of 13 Little League Divisions

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Oct. 20, 2003) – The number of participants in eight divisions of Little League Baseball and Softball increased in 2003, final figures show. Participation was up in Junior League Baseball, Big League Baseball, Tee Ball Softball, Minor League Softball, Major Softball, Senior League Softball, Big League Softball and the Challenger Division in 2003. Altogether, those eight divisions outpaced last year’s figures by more than 3,800 players.

However, participation decreased in Major Baseball, Tee Ball Baseball, Senior League Baseball, and Junior League Softball. Minor League Baseball remained unchanged.

“We’re pleased to see that a majority of our divisions have seen an increase,” said Joe Losch, vice president of operations for Little League. “As we look ahead to the 2004 season, we hope to see increases across the board.”

Mr. Losch said one way leagues can spread the word is to use the tools available in the “Little League Registration Promotion Kit.” The kit includes color posters, news releases and fliers that can be downloaded at no charge, as well as tips on how to promote the Little League program locally.
