Little League U.S. Champions Honored During Yankees-Marlins World Series

Event was the latest in long series of tributes

The East Boynton Beach Little League team, shown here celebrating after winning the U.S. Championship of Little League Baseball, participated in a pre-game ceremony during the 2003 Major League Baseball World Series at Pro Player Stadium in Miami.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (October 2003) – The East Boynton Beach Little League team that won the U.S. Championship in the Little League Baseball World Series here in August was honored before Game 3 of the Major League Baseball World Series at Pro Player Stadium in Miami.

The team took part in the first-pitch ceremony, then settled in for the game as guests of a local businessman. The team also was honored during a regular season Florida Marlins game at Pro Player Stadium earlier.

Among other tributes the team received after returning home: They met President George W. Bush and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush; they were recognized at a Miami Dolphins game; and the Florida House of Representatives voted unanimously on a resolution commemorating the team’s accomplishments. The resolution was co-sponsored by Delray Beach Representatives Anne Gannon and Adam Hasner.

Participants in the various World Series tournaments of Little League Baseball and Softball are accustomed to honors that have included visits to the White House, ticker-tape parades in New York City, and ceremonies at major sporting events.
