WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. (July 28, 2003) – Little League Baseball is saddened today by the
passing of Bob Hope, one of America’s greatest personalities.
Besides his storied career
on the stage, in movies and on television, and honorary veteran status
conferred by the U.S. Congress, Mr. Hope was a trustee of the Little
League Foundation from 1971 until 1992. He also was a guest at the
Little League Baseball International Congress in Williamsport in the
spring of 1989.
“Today, Little League
Baseball lost a great friend,” said Peter O’Malley, former president of
the Los Angeles Dodgers and immediate past president of the Little
League Foundation, a position he held during Mr. Hope’s tenure. “Bob
Hope’s service to Little League, as well as his service to our country,
will not be forgotten. I know I speak for all of the trustees past and
present in expressing our sadness for the loss of an American icon and
friend to Little Leaguers everywhere.” |
