Elizabeth Hunt Named Assistant Director of Southwestern Region
“We are pleased to welcome Liz to the Little League family,” said Mr. Keener. “Assuming the duties of assistant director for the Southwestern Region offers many challenges. As a resident of Waco, a former collegiate softball player, and Little League volunteer, her experience will be a valuable asset to the children and volunteers of the Southwestern Region.”
As Assistant Director, Ms. Hunt is responsible for assisting the director in the operation of the Little League Baseball Southwestern Region Leadership Training Center in Waco. Those duties involve working with local leagues to resolve issues, developing and implementing training programs, and operation of tournaments, including the annual Little League Baseball Southwest Regional Tournament.
“Liz will be a major asset to this office,” said Mike Witherwax, director of the Southwest Region. “Her knowledge and experience in softball provides and important perspective to our operation. We look forward to working with Liz, and watching her grow within the Little League program.”
Ms. Hunt assumes the position formerly held by Dan Velte, who left that post to become Director of League Development for Little League International.
A graduate of St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Ms. Hunt holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sports science. As a member of the St. Mary’s softball team, she earned four varsity letters, was a three-year starter at catcher, and in 2002, was on the NCAA Division II national championship team.
Ms. Hunt is a Waco native. She played Little League softball in the Lake Air Little League, and later volunteered in the league as an umpire and coach.
