Little League Names Media Relations Manager

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Feb. 5, 2004) – Christopher D. Downs has been named media relations manager for Little League International Baseball and Softball, it was announced today by Stephen D. Keener, Little League president and chief executive officer.

Mr. Downs joins the Little League family after working for seven years at the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, where he was assistant sports editor. In that capacity, he covered Little League events in the Williamsport/Lycoming County area, including the annual Little League Baseball World Series. For two years before that, he was sports editor of the Cheboygan Daily Tribune in Cheboygan, Mich.

“We’ve been well acquainted with Chris’ work at the Sun-Gazette for many years,” Mr. Keener said. “We’re pleased that he will be joining us, and we look forward to him helping to enhance Little League’s communications through all forms of media.”

Mr. Downs will handle most of the media inquiries that come to Little League International, a responsibility formerly held by Lance Van Auken, who was recently promoted to Senior Communications Executive.

Mr. Downs, a 1994 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, lives in Montoursville, Pa., with his wife Kim, and sons Brendan (age 5) and Justin (3).

Little League Baseball is the world’s largest organized youth sports program with nearly 2.7 million participants and 1 million volunteers in all 50 U.S. states and scores of other countries.
