Dr. Vince Matteo Named Chairman of 2005 Little League Golf Classic

Dr. Vincent J. Matteo

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (March 21, 2005) – Dr. Vincent J. Matteo of Williamsport, president and chief executive officer of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, will be the chairman of the 2005 Little League Golf Classic on Aug. 1 at the Williamsport Country Club, it was announced today by Stephen D. Keener, president and chief executive officer of Little League Baseball and Softball.

“To serve as chairman for the 2005 Little League Golf Classic is quite an honor,” Dr. Matteo said. “Each year the Little League World Series focuses the attention of the world on the Williamsport and Lycoming County area. The Little League Golf Classic is a superb way to begin building excitement for the World Series.”

More than 160 golfers and former Major Leaguers will take to the links this year in the 19th edition of the Golf Classic. In recent years, Baseball Hall of Famers Ferguson Jenkins, Bill Mazeroski, Harmon Killebrew, and Bob Feller have attended the Golf Classic, which features more than 30 former Major League Baseball players.

Dr. Matteo joined the Chamber of Commerce as its president and CEO in 2001. Prior to joining the Chamber, he served as the senior vice president and chief operating officer of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry. Dr. Matteo began his career in chamber work in 1980 as Director of Governmental Affairs and Community Development for the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce.

Among his community affiliations and professional activities, Dr. Matteo is a member of the Board of Trustees of FOCUS Central Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Foundation for Free Enterprise; is second vice president and member of the Williamsport Rotary Club; and is on the Business Advisory Board for the Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The Little League Golf Classic is the first major Little League event leading up to the Little League Baseball World Series in August in which 16 teams of 11- and 12-year-olds compete for the World Championship.
