Citrus Park Little League of Tampa, Fla., Wins 2005 Senior Softball World Series

LOWER SUSSEX, Del. (Aug. 13, 2005) – Citrus Park Little League of Tampa, Fla., won the 2005 Senior League Softball World Series with a 1-0 victory over Rosario y Cardona Little League from Maunabo, Puerto Rico, at the Pyle Center in Sussex County.

The South Region champions finished the World Series tournament with a 5-1 record, while the Latin America champions were 5-0 entering the championship game.

Morgan Grove drove in the only run of the game for Citrus Park Little League, which won the World Series following second-place finishes in the South Region tournament in each of the last two seasons.

Winning pitcher Alyses Stapf threw a one-hitter, her second of the Series. She pitched no hit softball through the first six innings, and finished with a two-hitter and six strikeouts.

Earlier, the East Region champions from Punxsutawney, Pa., needed 12 innings to beat the host team, 5-4, in the consolation game.
