Little League Baseball World Series Coverage Receives Two Emmy Nominations

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (March 31, 2006) – The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recently announced its nominees for Sports Emmy Awards, with Little League Baseball World Series coverage receiving two nominations.

The ABC/ESPN presentation of the 2005 Little League Baseball World Series has received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Live Sports Special, and ABC's coverage of the Little League World Series was nominated in the Outstanding Open/Tease category. The awards ceremony will take place May 1 in New York City.

“Throughout its proud partnership with ABC and ESPN, the Little League World Series has served as a stage to showcase the values of the Little League program to millions of people,” said Stephen D. Keener, president and chief executive officer of Little League Baseball and Softball. “The creativity and dedication of these two networks helps to convey Little League’s message of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play, even as the coverage focuses on the outstanding athleticism we see each year here in Williamsport. We congratulate ABC and ESPN on being nominated, and wish them best of luck this May at the awards ceremony.”

Last year, more than 40 games in Little League Baseball and Softball were televised nationally on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.
