Sunkist Calls for Little Leaguers to Highlight Their "Sensational Squeeze Play"

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (April 13, 2006) – As the Official Fresh Snack of Little League Baseball and Softball, Sunkist is calling for all Little League players, coaches, families and friends across America to share their best, most exciting story about how their team made a sensational squeeze play that saved the day. Squeeze play stories will be reviewed and the best will win 20 general admission tickets to one Six Flags Theme Park in the United States.

Coaches, players, family members and friends can visit www.teamsunkist.com to enter and win tickets for the entire Little League team to a Six Flags theme park. Any coach, player, family member or friend can enter the contest by submitting a 100-word story about how the team made a sensational squeeze play that helped deliver the team in a pinch. The story can be about an amazing winning play on the field, or a sensational volunteer effort made off the field by a player, coach or other local league official. In addition to 20 Six Flag’s tickets, the winning team will also receive a one-month supply of delicious Sunkist oranges. To sweeten the deal even more, two first-place winning teams will win $250 worth of sporting equipment.

What’s more, once again Sunkist is distributing specially marked bags of Sunkist oranges that include a free Upper Deck® collectable baseball trading card. The cards feature nine current Major League Baseball greats who’ve inspire thousands of Little Leaguers, including Alex Rodriguez, Lance Berkman, Vladimir Guerrero, Ichiro Suzuki and Albert Pujols.

“Sunkist is committed to providing kids with a healthy snack,” said Robert Verloop, Vice President of Marketing for Sunkist Growers, Inc. “We’re proud to offer Little League players and families fresh and fun snacks to fuel up on instead of sugary candy, cookies or chips.”

Healthy snacking isn’t just for Little League players. In fact, it is especially important for all growing kids to eat healthy foods and replenish their bodies with abundant doses of Vitamin C. Just one Sunkist navel orange is an excellent source of fiber and supplies 130 percent of the recommended daily value (RDV) of Vitamin C. Additionally, since most citrus fruit is even packed with soluble fiber, just one orange is more filling and satisfies hunger much longer than a high-calorie snack like chips or candy.

“Little League Baseball appreciates the partnership with Sunkist and their commitment to keep our kids healthy and energized on and off the field.” Stephen D. Keener, president and chief executive officer of Little League Baseball, said. “The Sensational Squeeze Play contest is a great way to promote a fresh and healthy snack food alternative for active families.”

All contest entries must be postmarked before May 12, 2006. Visit www.teamsunkist.com for complete rules and judging criteria.

As one of the world’s oldest and largest citrus marketing cooperatives, Sunkist Growers is owned by more than 6,000 citrus growers in California and Arizona, most of whom are small family farmers.
