Bryant-Sponsored Little League Coach Does “Whatever It Takes”
Williamsport, Pa. (Aug. 25, 2006) —The three cornerstones of Little League baseball and Softball — courage, character and loyalty — will be honored at the 2006 Little League Baseball World Series when Dublin, CA-based coach Michael Flynn is presented with Bryant Heating & Cooling Systems’ “Coolest Coach” award. Each year, Bryant bestows this award to one outstanding coach that embodies the values, spirit and passion of Little League Baseball and Softball and provides players with a life-shaping experience. Flynn will be presented with the award at the Little League Baseball World Series on Saturday, August 26 in Williamsport, PA.
“Mike Flynn led his team to a victorious season while teaching the kids principles and perseverance, and also about the love of the game,” says Greg Wilson, program administrator for Bryant. “He exemplifies the kind of Little League coach we hope to celebrate with the ‘Coolest Coach’ award and makes Bryant proud to be a Little League Baseball sponsor.”
Flynn says he was elated when he found out he won the award, as if being nominated by his family and friends were honor enough.
“My coaching style is a nexus of learning from other talented volunteer coaches, a group of very talented kids, a wonderful group of team parents and, of course, the most supportive family around,” says Flynn.
The community is glad to see Flynn’s sportsmanship honored. “Mike is a hard-working, dedicated coach who is there for the kids,” says Eileen Brosius, whose son, Kevin, played on Flynn’s Dublin Giants team. “He took a last place team from the previous season all the way to the championship this year—and they had fun while doing it.”
Flynn, whose two sons are involved in Little League, indeed improved the team’s record. Yet in the spirit of Little League Baseball and Softball, Flynn kept things light by holding “Rockin’ Friday Night Practices” where the team would play hard while listening to their favorite music and be rewarded with pizza and soda after practice. When Flynn’s wife, Leslye, took ill with cancer two years ago, he continued his job at AT&T while caring for her and still held practice two to three times a week.
Since 2004, Bryant has been a proud sponsor of Little League teams across the country. Last year, more than 70 Bryant dealers participated in the program to donate over $250,000 worth of equipment for the 2005 season, including equipment bags, water coolers, scorebooks, ball buckets and refrigerator magnets.
