International Tournament Tip of the Day – Tip 15

Assignment of Umpires

The role of the umpire is to be responsible for the conduct of a game in accordance with the official rules, and for maintaining discipline and order on the playing field during the game.

Tournament Directors have full responsibility for providing volunteer Little League umpires for tournament play, and should NOT assign umpires to officiate games involving their home league. The district administrator for the district hosting the tournament shall NOT umpire.

As umpires prepare for tournament assignments they are advised to review the current tournament rules for the various divisions of baseball and softball.

There MUST be at least two umpires in each tournament game. More are recommended when available.
