| International Tournament Tip of the Day –
Tip 6 Mandatory Play – New for 2007 The participants on a Tournament Team in the 9-10 Year Old Division; 10-11 Year Old Division; Little League Division; and Junior League Division of baseball and softball must participate in each game for a minimum of three (3) consecutive defensive outs and bat at least one (1) time. There is no mandatory play for Senior League and Big League baseball and softball. For the purposes of this rule “three consecutive defensive outs” is defined as: A player enters the field in one of nine defensive positions when his/her team is on defense and occupies such position while three consecutive outs are made. The definition of “bat at least one time” is: A player enters the batters box with no count (balls and/or strikes) and completes that time at bat by making an out or reaching base safely. Managers are required to fulfill the mandatory play requirements, which have no exceptions, unless the game is shortened for any reason.
