Caribbean Region Champion is Decided; Pabao Little League Qualifies for 2004 Little League Baseball World Series
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (July 24, 2004) – A team from Willemstad, Curacao, became the second to earn a berth in the 2004 Little League Baseball World Series by winning the Caribbean Region Tournament on Saturday in Oranjestad, Aruba.

The Pabao Little League of Willemstad, Curacao Netherlands Antilles defeated Aruba North Little League, from Oranjestad, 6-0, in the championship game. Pabao Little League finished the 10-team tournament with a 6-0 record.

The Caribbean Region champion has never played for the Little League Baseball World Series championship. Since the Little League Baseball World Series tournament expanded from eight to 16 teams in 2001, and Caribbean teams have had their own regional tournament representative, the Caribbean champion has advanced to, and lost the World Series International championship game three consecutive years.

Pabao Little League will be making its third trip to the Little League Baseball World Series, having played in Williamsport in 1980 and 2003. Pabao Little League joins Linda Vista Little League of Guadalupe, Mexico, as a participant in the 2004 Little League Baseball World Series.

The Little League Baseball World Series for 11-12-year-olds will be played in Williamsport, Aug. 20-29.

ABC will televise the Little League Baseball World Series U.S. championship game on Aug. 28, at 7:30 p.m. The world championship game of the Little League Baseball World Series can be seen live on ABC at 6:30 p.m., on Aug. 29. Twenty-five other World Series games will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2 for a total of 27 games on national television.

The next berth in the Little League Baseball World Series will be decided Thursday in Agana, Guam, when the Asia Region Tournament is due to end.

The U.S. region finals, all of which will be televised live on ESPN2, are: Southeast (St. Petersburg, Fla., Aug. 7, 7 p.m.); Midwest (Indianapolis, Aug. 8, 7 p.m.); Great Lakes (Indianapolis, Aug. 9, 8 p.m.); Southwest (Waco, Texas, Aug. 10, 8 p.m.); Northwest (San Bernardino, Calif., Aug. 11, 8 p.m.); West (San Bernardino, Calif., Aug. 12, 8 p.m.); New England (Bristol, Conn., Aug. 14, 8 p.m.); Mid-Atlantic (Bristol, Conn., Aug. 15, 5 p.m.). All times are Eastern U.S. time.

Little League Baseball is the largest organized youth sports program in the world, with 2.7 million participants in all 50 states and more than 70 other countries.
