WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Aug. 17, 2004) – Rebecca Alviso was a Little League
mother and is now a Little League grandmother, who currently serves on
the Jourdanton (Texas) Little League board of directors. For her years
of dedicated service, Mrs. Alviso will be honored as Little League’s
Volunteer of the Year during the 2004 Little League Baseball World
Series in Williamsport, Pa.The Little League Volunteer of the Year
award recognizes the selfless efforts of nearly one million volunteers
at the grass-roots level of the Little League program. Mrs. Alviso has
displayed a tireless commitment to the local league through her work
on the Little League board, countless hours in the concession stand
and constant participation in maintenance work days.
“In this time of her life, most women her age are nearing all the
benefits of retirement,” said Tammy Blalock, Jourdanton Little League
information officer. “Yet, Mrs. Alviso gives 110 percent of herself to
the Jourdanton Little League to ensure that business runs as smoothly
as possible. She has demonstrated tireless efforts above and beyond
the call of duty and has consistently proven her vigorous, selfless
exuberance.”
The Little League Volunteer of the Year Award, established in 1989,
was designed to provide local leagues an opportunity to honor a
deserving individual with this prestigious distinction. This honor is
recognized as the most important and visible of the Little League
Baseball and Softball award programs.
“Time is such a valued commodity, and to give it unselfishly is
what Rebecca Alviso has done for several years,” said Stephen D.
Keener, president and chief executive officer of Little League
Baseball and Softball. “The children and fellow volunteers in the
Jourdanton Little League look to her with amazement and appreciation,
because her being there night after night is something that makes them
feel better about their own involvement.”

organized youth sports program, with nearly 2.7 million players and 1
million adult volunteers in every U.S. state and scores of other
