League Bulletin Board: News & Notes for the Quorum

The tournament season has ended for many leagues, and your Board of Directors is only weeks away from the end of the fiscal year. Now is the time to beginning organizing for the year-end, and there is plenty that you will need to be aware of, so here is a list of items to keep in mind.

Little League® on Television:

In late July and through the month of August, 137 Little League Baseball® and Little League Softball® tournament games are scheduled to be televised on ABC, the ESPN family of networks, and the Longhorn Network.

The complete World Series television schedule and the day-by-day Little League Baseball World Series viewing schedule are available at LLBWS.org.

We hope you can visit one or more of these venues to see the games in person. If not, we invite you to enjoy the games on television or through the WatchESPN app and the Little League World Series website.

“Watch Parties” Promote Early Registration and Retention:

Promoting your league to families and volunteers is essential to maintaining player participation and adult involvement. Hosting special events, such as a “Regional or World Series Watch Party” is a simple way to position the league for future success. Building on the energy and excitement of the televised regional and World Series games creates a welcome venue for parents and players to want to get involved.

It is best to plan such events to include a pre-registration opportunity for next season. Share this information on social media, and use it to drive interest in early registration for next season. One of the best ways to create brand awareness of our Little League® program is for parents, coaches, volunteers, umpires, and league officials to spread the word with friends so more people watch these games. Also, use this opportunity to stay connected with your local league membership by promoting viewing parties at your local leagues and other related special events.

Recruiting New Board Members:

Tournament season is a prime time to enlist and recruit new candidates for your league’s Board of Directors. The annual election of officers takes place in the fall, with the new Board seated at the beginning of the new fiscal year in October. Use this time to identify those league volunteers interested in serving on the Board of Directors for the coming season.

End-of-Year Evaluations:

As we approach the end of another exciting Little League® season, this is a great time to hold an end-of-year meeting with parents or distribute a parents survey to obtain valuable feedback about their experience during the year. This information will be valuable as they look to improve their league for future years.

2016 Tournament Mileage Reporting:

The deadline for submitting tournament mileage reports is Sept. 15. Please advise your local leagues of this form and the process for submission.

Leagues Not Participating in the 2016 Little League® International Tournament:

Local leagues NOT participating in the International Tournament are asked to log onto the Little League® Data Center and use the 2016 Little League International Tournament participation form to confirm that there were no teams entered into this year’s Tournament. The form must be submitted to Little League International to avoid having your league(s) placed on hold for the 2017 season. All 2016 tournament resources are available online through the Tournament Toolkit website.

2017 Chartering and Marketing Toolkit:

For the 2017 season, the Chartering and Marketing Toolkit will be delivered to current League Presidents on file, so it is important that you encourage the leagues in your district to update their league officer information through the Little League Data Center.

Global Connection Touch Table:

Local Leagues can be a part of the World of Little League® through the Global Connections Touch Table. Any local Little League® in the world has a direct connection to the Little League Museum -- thanks to the Global Connections Touch Table. Uploading pictures and information about a local league takes only a few minutes.
