Little League Softball® Celebrates its 40th Anniversary and National Girls and Women in Sports Day with New Initiatives

Throughout 2014, Little League® International is honoring the past, present and future of Little League Softball® as it celebrates the program’s 40th Anniversary. Several softball-specific initiatives were unveiled on February 5 - National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

Little League Challenger Division® Exhibition Game at the 2014 Little League Baseball® World Series to Feature Teams from Detroit, Mich., and Vancouver, British Columbia

The Little League Challenger Division® Exhibition Game has become a popular event at the Little League Baseball® World Series, and this year for the first time, it will feature an international matchup. The game is scheduled for Saturday, August 23.

Little League®: A History is a one-hour documentary produced by VIA Studios Global, a division of the WVIA Public Media, narrated by legendary baseball broadcaster, Vin Scully that re-introduces America to one of its own iconic institutions. Little League® Graduate, Derek Jeter, Announces His Retirement
On February 12, 2014, Derek Jeter, Captain of the New York Yankees and a former Westwood Little Leaguer from Kalamzoo, Mich., announced on his Facebook page that the 2014 season, his 20th in pinstripes, would be his last playing Major League Baseball.

Internationally Renowned 3D Pop Artist Charles Fazzino to Create Official Little League® 75th Anniversary Artwork

Nationally-celebrated pop artist Charles Fazzino came to Williamsport, Pa., to work with teachers, high school students and fifth graders from Pennsylvania schools in Lycoming and Sullivan Counties to create the official artwork for the 75th Anniversary of Little League®.

Grafton Little League Rallying to Support the Family of Boston Marathon Bombing Victim, and Little Leaguer®, Martin Richard

Little League® lost one of its own at last year’s Boston Marathon Bombing. Martin Richard, 8, a player for Savin Hill Little League in Dorchester, Mass., was standing at the finish line with his family when the second bomb went off. The bombing took Martin’s life.
