ImportantIt is time to complete the required background checks for all members of a local league’s board of directors, managers, coaches, umpires and any other volunteer staff who will have “regular service and/or repetitive access” to players or teams. Keep in mind this requirement is extended to all perspective coaches, including practice coaches and those under the age of 18. For umpires who volunteer in multiple Little League programs, a background check must be done by each league in which the umpire is a volunteer. Little League international recommends that local leagues conduct their backgrounds through LexisNexis. Using LexisNexis affords each league 125 free background checks and a cost of $1 per check for any subsequent checks. For new leagues registering with LexisNexis, or leagues renewing their LexisNexis registration, be aware that it may take several days for the registration to be processed. More information is available here: LexisNexis HomeSafe Flyer_2010.pdf
