Calendar of events for recruitment

· September – Begin planning for upcoming season (look over calendar)

· October – Set a date for a spring clinic for new and current umpires

· Mail a background application and letter to current & prospective umpires announcing the date of the spring clinic (See letter and flyer attached)

· November – Set dead line to return background application to be checked by District Administrator

· December – Complete a list with phone numbers and addresses of all umpires whose background checks have been completed

· January – Make available an up-dated listing of all umpires for the UIC of the individual leagues

Develop a team of umpires that are willing to attend the league sign-ups for the purpose of obtaining names of individuals who have an interest in umpiring. Use District web-page for recruitment of new umpires (If no web-page, develop one for the District)

· January & February - Run ad in the local paper inviting individuals to be part of your umpire group for the Little League Baseball/Softball season

· February – Schedule an interview with the local newspaper sportswriter about publishing an article emphasizing the importance of having individuals umpire in the Little League program. What a great opportunity umpiring allows to give back to the community!

Talk with the local radio station about appearing on a talk show to discuss recruiting new umpires and the experiences & benefits of umpiring in the Little League Baseball/Softball program

Complete background applications on all new recruits and have them checked by the District Administrator

Up-date the umpire listing for the leagues UIC

· March - Prepare for and conduct umpire clinic for new and current umpires (Slide presentation of Little League rules overview, handouts, etc.)

· April – Schedule the new umpires with the more seasoned umpires ( building experience)

· April thru June – Play ball! Enjoy the season!

· June – Schedule umpires for tournament games
