The Little League Challenger Division® provides an opportunity for children with physical and developmental disabilities to participate in the Little League program in an environment structured to their abilities. Through the buddy system, other Little Leaguers® assist Challenger athletes as needed with batting, running and fielding. In addition to the baseball skills learned through the experience, the value of the Little League Challenger Division is found in the proven therapeutic and socialization benefits of participating in sports; the strengthening of participants’ self-esteem and learning the value of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play.
The Challenger Division provides each Little League program with the framework necessary to offer a structured, athletic activity for all youth in their community. Challenger Division games are noncompetitive and are played on the same fields using the same equipment as all other levels of Little League play. Starting a Challenger Division is one of the most impactful decisions that a local Little League program can make. Participation not only impacts the lives of the Challenger athletes, but also the lives of the volunteers and buddies that give their time to make the program possible.
