Fall: Chartering

Now is the time when local leagues begin planning for the coming season, and one of the most important milestones in that process is applying for a charter. All leagues, regardless of past affiliations, are required to re-charter each year.

The Charter and Insurance Applications are being mailed to all local Little Leagues. They are mailed to league presidents whose information is on file with Little League International.

It is important to note that the Charter and Insurance rates have remained at the same level as last year. In fact, Charter Fees dropped by 11 percent in 2007 and have remained at that level ever since.

Of course, insurance, if purchased through Little League International, remains at an extremely low cost (less than a few dollars per player for the entire season) because of Little League’s historic penchant for safety. It can be even lower when the local league participates in ASAP (A Safety Awareness Program).

Upon receipt of the Charter and Insurance Application, please review it for accuracy with regard to fees, rates, credits/debits and contact information. Additionally, please complete the application in its entirety, as a partially-competed application will only delay the process.

Accident and Liability Insurance are mandatory for all leagues. If a league elects not to purchase these insurances through Little League, it must provide acceptable proof of insurance from the local insurance provider.

By completing and returning the Charter and Insurance Application with the premium, prior to January 1, the league guarantees that its insurance does not lapse. It also means early delivery of rulebooks and league supplies. For a further assistance, check out the sample charter tutorial online at www.LittleLeague.org.
