Welcome to the Positive Coaching Alliance/Little League Leadership Pages

As a Little League Leader (administrator, league president, board of directors member), your most important job is delivering on Little League’s promise to develop character in youth through baseball and softball. Therefore, Little League since 2006 has partnered with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) to provide a framework and tools for local Little League Leaders to develop a culture of positive, character-building competition.
Throughout this section of Little League’s website, you will learn the basics of such a culture, implementing the following terminology:

• Little League Double-Goal Coach®: Little League Double-Goal Coaches have two goals, winning, and more importantly, teaching life lessons through baseball and softball. Double-Goal Coach takes its name from a book by PCA Founder and Executive Director Jim Thompson and is the inspiration for the online Little League Double-Goal Coach Course (link preceding to course).

• Second-Goal Parent: Just as Little League Double-Goal Coaches have two goals -- winning, and more importantly, teaching life lessons through baseball and softball -- Little League and Positive Coaching Alliance aim for “Second-Goal” Parents, who are focused on the “second goal” of helping children take life lessons from sports.

• Triple-Impact Competitor: These are players who create an impact on three levels: themselves (as athletes and people); their teammates; and the game as a whole. When Little League Double-Goal Coaches and Second-Goal Parents work together, the result often is a community full of young Triple-Impact Competitors.

That is one way to know that you are building a positive, character-developing culture. What do we mean by “culture”? Most simply, “culture” is the way “WE do things HERE.” For example, in one Little League, the “way we do things here” ensures that all players shake hands with all umpires after games. In another Little League, “the way we do things here” mandates that all players cheer the opposing team in a post-game chant.
Regardless of the specifics of your league’s culture, here are links to tools that help you ensure that all participants in your league do things “the way we do things here.”
