2018 Local League Resource Guide:

The 2018 Local League Resource Guide is on its way to you, if it hasn’t reached your mailbox already! District Administrators are expected to receive an advanced copy of this year’s Resource Guide by early November. Leagues will receive the Resource Guide after its league officers are updated or confirmed for the 2018 season through the Little League Data Center. A Local League Resource Guide will NOT be sent to a league until confirmation has been received by Little League International that all league officers have been updated. For online access to the Resource Guide, visit the “League Officials” tab on the Little League University website: LittleLeagueU.org.

D.A. Action: To ensure delivery to the appropriate members in your local leagues, log on to the new Little League Data Center to confirm that the League President information has been updated for all leagues in your district.

D.A. Action: Send notice of a special district meeting that includes your League Presidents and other league officials to go over the Local League Resource Guide. The 2018 Local League Resource Guide is a resource that all members of your District Staff should review.

D.A. Action: Ensure that all your local league have either had or have scheduled their annual meeting and Board Elections. Once the elections are complete, remind your League Presidents to update their League Officers on the Little League Data Center.

Chartering for the 2018 Season:

Chartering for the 2018 Little League® season is open now and to be done exclusively through the Little League Data Center. The Little League Data Center also provides local leagues and districts the opportunity to update all league officers and purchase insurance. Again this year, an early chartering incentive of free 2018 Little League Rulebooks is available. Little League greatly appreciates your diligence in promoting early registration to each of your leagues, and reviewing progress by regularly checking the Little League Data Center.

D.A. Action: During your next meeting with League Presidents highlight the one-stop functionality of the Little League Data Center, including: updating league officers, online chartering and insurance enrollment, the ability to denote divisional format, combine teams, and interleague play, and pay all charter and insurance fees.

D.A. Action: The Little League Finder is a quick and easy way to view, and become familiar with, any league’s boundaries; and is easily shared with your League Presidents and parents with questions about residency.

Little League® International Congress Registration and Travel:

All District Administrators, Assistant District Administrators, and designees are encouraged to register now for the 2018 Little League International Congress to be held in January 2018; and finalize all travel plans for the trip to New Orleans. The deadline has passed for making travel arrangements through AAA North Penn, and have the cost of the airline ticket billed directly to Little League International. Delegates from the United States flying to the Congress, but not booking through AAA of North Penn will be reimbursed an amount not to exceed the equivalent of the most economical airfare, as determined by Little League International, from the closest major airport, available as of Wednesday, November 1, 2017. District Administrators, and Alternates, from outside the United States will receive $500 travel reimbursement to attend the International Congress.

D.A. Action: A free mobile device application (app) has been developed for the Little League International Congress. The Congress app is available at the iTunes store or Google Play; and is being updated regularly. During the Congress, this app will include a daily schedule of training sessions and events and be the primary communications method during our time in New Orleans.

Little League® Newsletters and the Google Translator:

Each month, the Little League® Communications Department produces electronic newsletters for District Administrators, coaches and managers, local league officials, and parents. Every other month, a newsletter is delivered to umpires; and several times during the year, Little League’s Risk Management Department partners with Musco Lighting Company to print and deliver the ASAP (A Safety Awareness Program) newsletter. The monthly and ASAP newsletters are available on the Little League website. To receive any, or all, of the newsletter just sign up. The Google translator feature on the top of the LittleLeague.org home page lets anyone enjoy the newsletters in a variety of languages.

D.A. Action: Require that, at minimum, each of your League Presidents’ sign up for the newsletters. Communication with league officials is essential to Little League success.

D.A. Strategy: For communities in your district that predominantly speak a language other than English, assign a person on your staff or create a special position for a person to establish a proper communication channel to share the already translated newsletters with them.

D.A. Action: Upload the content of these newsletters to your district website. Arrange the information by topics so your league officials and other volunteers or parents can easily access the information.

League and District Audits:

Each local league is strongly encouraged to complete an annual independent audit of its financial statements. It is recommended that the audit be conducted by a local financial firm not associated with the league as a league sponsor. Once completed, a report is to be presented to the local league Board of Directors, and a copy filed with the District’s Treasurer. The district should also partake in an annual audit to reconcile its budget for the fiscal year.

D.A. Action: Utilize the direction and guidance provided in the 2018 Little League Resource Guide; along with information about finance and fiscal responsibilities of a local league and the role of a treasurer found on LittleLeagueU.org.

Plan Training Using the Little League® Calendar:

Each month, Little League® International lists upcoming training and education clinics on its electronic calendar available online at LittleLeague.org. Other information and events of note for the month can be reviewed by visiting the LittleLeague.org home page and clicking on “Things to Know.”
