D.A. Bulletin - October

Little League Baseball World Series

Little League Baseball® Age Determination Date to Move to Aug. 31 beginning in 2018: Read more about this change.

D.A. Strategy: As a new Little League year begins, take this opportunity to educate leagues on the change to the Age Determination Date. This is a great time to remind leagues to evaluate their league to determine if their divisions are structured appropriately.

COMING SOON! 2016 Chartering and Marketing Toolkit: All District Administrators will receive a 2016 Chartering and Marketing Toolkit before each league’s Toolkit is placed in the mail. Expect the Toolkit to be delivered to you toward the end of October.

D.A. Strategy: Log on to the Little League Data Center to ensure that all of your leagues have updated their league officers. The Chartering and Marketing Toolkit is a valuable resource for local league Board of Directors and confirming that leagues have updated this information will allow the current board members to receive this valuable information.

Update League Officers

2015 First-Year District Administrator Training Series: Little League® International will be welcoming nearly 40 first-year volunteer D.A.s from around the world to the fourth annual New D.A. Training Series, Oct. 9-10. The group of newly-elected D.A.s will be meeting with Little League International staff members and conversing with fellow district volunteers regarding the best ways to efficiently oversee and operate their leagues.

Background Checks: The first 125 free First Advantage background checks available to local leagues and districts, paid for by Little League® International, will re-set as of Nov. 1, 2015. As a reminder, the information collected through the First Advantage background checks should be kept in a secure location and remain confidential. When using First Advantage for background checks, Social Security numbers are required. You must enter Social Security numbers into the data base. Once the check is completed, you can then redact (black out or conceal) the Social Security number and/or other personal information from the paper copy for added protection.

D.A. Strategy: Remind your leagues of the importance of completing background checks. As new board members take over, direct them to the resource page on the Little League Website to learn more about how to take advantage of the FREE background checks provided by Little League. Also, remember to review state laws regarding background checks, and service to volunteer and civic organizations that involve access to children.

Retaining Leagues for Next Season: During the next month, District Administrators and their assistants are strongly encouraged to schedule at least one meeting with each league in the district to discuss the league’s intention to charter for the 2016 season. This meeting can help to lay the groundwork for a successful season in 2016. Please, remind your leagues that if any league charters by Dec. 31, 2015, it will receive an additional 10 free rulebooks.

D.A. Strategy: The Fall is a perfect time to visit with leagues to discuss any concerns they may have. This provides the District Administrator plenty of time to work with the league to improve concerns and position all leagues for success heading into the 2016 season.

Updating League Officers: Having accurate local league officer information on file is vital to the overall success of the Little League® program. This information allows Little League the ability to provide local leagues with valuable updates and information in season that will allow them to provide a better experience for players, families and volunteers. Please remind your leagues to update their league officers by logging on to the Little League Data Center. Even if the League is retaining all officers from the previous year, they should logon to the Data Center and click the button that says “Have you updated your officers for 2016?”.

D.A. Strategy: District Administrators have the ability to update league president information on the Data Center for local leagues. Chartering and Marketing Toolkits will NOT be sent to leagues until we have received confirmation that officers have been updated. Follow-up and confirm that all leagues have held their annual election and have updated league officers on the Little League Data Center.

2015 Little League® Baseball and Softball Tournament Umpire Request Form: By Nov. 1, District Administrators are asked to submit the Umpire Request Form on behalf of the umpires they are nominating for placement in 2016 Regional and World Series tournaments. This form is to be provided to the respective Regional Center.

D.A. Strategy: The nomination of an umpire for a Regional or World Series Tournament should NOT be considered as a years-of-service award. From you evaluation, and in concert with the assessment of your district’s Umpire-In-Chief, forward your nomination(s) for the individual(s) who you believe have achieved the level of competence to which they deserve this consideration.

This District Administrator Bulletin is sent monthly to District Administrators and Assistant District Administrators via e-mail.
