FEBRUARY 2014 | ARCHIVE | SIGN-UP

Little League® Big Legacy Project: Be a part of our 75th Anniversary mosaic. It’s simple to upload a photo and/or memory. The finished mosaic will be revealed on June 6, 2014. For every photo or memory uploaded, Little League® International will donate $1 up to $50,000 to Pitch In For Baseball, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing new and gently used baseball and softball equipment to young players.

National Background Checks: Per Little League® Regulation I (c) 8 and 9, a national check of the sex offender registries in all 50 states must be done on each volunteer with “repetitive access” to children. By using First Advantage, the regulation requirement is met, and leagues also have access to an annual database of 270 million individual criminal records. Background checks are required for the following positions: managers, coaches, practice coaches, Board of Directors, umpires and others, including equipment manager, field maintenance staff, scorekeeper(s), announcer(s), general volunteers, concession workers and team parents. There may be other positions within a league or district that would fit the “repetitive access” criteria.

Big Legacy

2014 ASAP Information: To assist you in providing the highest possible level of safety and injury prevention, a basic sample of an accepted ASAP plan is available for your review as well as descriptions of the 15 ASAP requirements. In order for your district to receive its ASAP incentive, your district must have your Leagues’ ASAP plans submitted to, and approved by, Little League® International no later than March 13.

Player Registration and Coach/Manager Information for 2014: Help Little League® provide coaches and volunteers with important Little League information and initiatives prior to, and during, the season by encouraging your leagues to record and catalog the players, coaches and managers in your district. Local leagues must submit regular-season player registration/roster information and coach/manager data through the Little League Data Center by April 1, 2014. Once in the Little League Data Center, upload player registration/roster information and coach/manager data by clicking on Manage Registration Data/Rosters or Managers/Coaches then click on Upload Player/Registration Roster. Next, select the file format you are using from the dropdown menu and this will give you step-by-step instructions on how to create and upload your file.

Chartering and Marketing Toolkit: With many leagues currently registering players and beginning to play games, this is the time to direct leagues to the Chartering and Marketing Toolkit Resource Page. The resource page provides leagues with information on how to enhance the experience for families, and provides input for Board members throughout the season.

Softball Excellence Partnership: Little League Softball® has partnered with Softball Excellence, a coaches educational resource, which provides the ability to access online courses designed specifically for Little League Softball managers and coaches at a cost of $17.95 per course.

Coaches Toolkit: The Little League® Baseball and Softball Coaches Toolkits are separate packages for Little League Baseball® and Little League Softball®. Each Kit includes sport-specific training manuals, videos and other materials that will help both the novice and experienced coach.

2014 Rulebook Apps: The 2014 Little League® Rulebook Apps provide the Little League rules for the Baseball and Softball programs, and the Challenger Division®. The interface is easy to navigate and includes search capabilities and bookmark functionality. Apps are available in the Apple App and Google Play Store, click here to download or text “Rulebooks” to 55155.
