District Staff Bulletin - December 2010
Review Rules and Regulations: Schedule to meet with league presidents to review the new baseball and softball rules and regulations that will be in place for the 2011 seasons, including the significant changes in the structure and opportunities available in the Little League Softball program.
League Development: Local leagues are encouraged to participate in the expanded 50-70 Pilot Program and District Staffs are asked to promote chartering this program. Information on the 50-70 Pilot Program is available here: http://www.littleleague.org/media/newsarchive/2010/Sep-Dec/50-70PilotProgramOfferedAgainFor2011.htm and http://www.littleleague.org/media/newsarchive/2010/Sep-Dec/HowWashingtonLeaguePromotes50-70PilotProgram.htm. Contact the Little League International League Development Department - Dan Velte, Director of League Development and Affiliation, dvelte@LittleLeague.org; or Sam Ranck, League Development Manager, sranck@LittleLeague.org for assistance.
Background Checks/Insurance Claims: If requested to do so by the local league, all local league volunteers must provide their Social Security Number when completing their 2011 Little League volunteer application. An individual's Social Security Number is required for all background checks conducted through LexisNexis. An individual's Social Security Number also is required for all 2011 insurance claims, according to federal law. Regardless of whether the claimant is a child or adult, his/her Social Security Number will be required for processing.
Online League Management Tools: Take advantage of the affordable software and website solutions provided by Active Network, Sports, an official partner of Little League Baseball and Softball. Active offers leagues easy online player registration, a free eteamz website and comprehensiveonline league management tools. For your upcoming district meetings, we've provided updated information to include on your meeting agenda that shows how your local leagues can benefit from Active's league administration software: http://www.activenetwork.com/Assets/Emails/2010/12-Sports/littleleague.pdf
League Retention: As leagues begin planning for the upcoming playing season, a great way to expand participation in your district is to reach out to leagues to confirm that each plan to charter for 2011. Also, identify the area(s) in your district where there is no Little League available and develop plans to present the benefits of Little League to residents in the unserviced area(s). If you have questions or would like guidance on how to establish new leagues, please contact the Little League International League Development Department - Dan Velte, Director of League Development and Affiliation, dvelte@LittleLeague.org; or Sam Ranck, League Development Manager, sranck@LittleLeague.org for assistance.
Little League Road Shows: A listing of Little League Road Shows is available here: http://www.littleleague.org/media/newsarchive/2010/Sep-Dec/LLRoadShowSeason2010-2011.htm. If a Road Show is scheduled in your area, promote that information to local leagues in the district.
