Latin America Rides to Game 2 Victory on the Bat of Perdomo and the Arm of Morales

By Dan Ryan

Latin America couldn’t have asked for a better start to the Little League World Series. Gustavo Perdomo, CF, went 3-4 with a home run and Kevin Morales, pitched a complete game with 7 strikeouts on Latin America’s way to an 8-1 victory over Canada.

“I was just happy to get one more run for my team,” Perdomo said when asked how he felt about his home run. The home run came off of the first pitch in the second inning and was sent out to the crowd sitting in the lawn.

Not to be cut short, Roberto Moronta, SS, also went 3-4, with one of those hits being a lead-off triple that eventually scored on a wild pitch. “It’s a dream being here. I am very proud of my team,” Moronta said after the game. “I am a little sad that my parents couldn’t have been here for it, but they are in my heart.”

From the mound, Latin America was just as impressive. Starting pitcher Kevin Morales went the distance and struck out 7 along the way with only 3 hits.

After the loss, Canadian head coach Jay Bouchey feels that it will be better from here. “I think the important thing is that we have gotten one game under our belts,” Bouchey said. “There were a lot of jitters since this was the first game but I think 15 minutes from now they will all be gone.”

The team representing Latin America is from Maracaibo, Venezuela and the team representing Canada is from White Rock, British Columbia.
