Play Suspended for Day One of the 2015 Little League Baseball® World Series

The Little League® International Tournament Committee has announced that all play for day one of the 2015 Little League Baseball World® Series has been suspended due to weather.

Consulting with weather authorities, and ensuring that all teams have the best on-field playing conditions, the games will be rescheduled for tomorrow, August 21. All eight first-round games will be played on Friday, August 21.

“Frequent showers and lengthy periods of steady rain are expected today in Williamsport as a cold front moves slowly east across Pennsylvania,” said Frank McCathran, Director of Earth Network's WeatherBug Schools and Club Safety Programs. “More than an inch of rain is expected today with limited breaks in precipitation at any point throughout the day. Lightning will also pose a safety issue throughout the afternoon.”

The first-round game schedule for Friday, August 21 will be as follows:

Game 1 – 10:00 a.m.: Europe-Africa (Visitor) vs. Caribbean (Home) – Volunteer Stadium
Game 2 – 11:00 a.m.: Southwest (Visitor) vs. Northwest (Home) – Lamade Stadium
Game 3 – 1:00 p.m.: Latin America (Visitor) vs. Australia (Home) – Volunteer Stadium
Game 4 – 2:00 p.m.: Great Lakes (Visitor) vs. West (Home) – Lamade Stadium
Game 5 – 4:00 p.m.: Canada (Visitor) vs. Mexico (Home) – Volunteer Stadium
Game 6 – 5:00 p.m.: Southeast (Visitor) vs. New England (Home) – Lamade Stadium
Game 7 – 7:00 p.m.: Asia-Pacific (Visitor) vs. Japan (Home) – Volunteer Stadium
Game 8 – 8:00 p.m.: Mid-Atlantic (Visitor) vs. Midwest (Home) – Lamade Stadium

“We have been advised that weather conditions will get progressively worse throughout the day,” said Patrick Wilson, Little League International Tournament Director. “In an interest to give all teams the opportunity to play with full player availability and ideal field conditions, keep the Little League Baseball World Series on schedule, and provide fans and visitors with the best experience, we have decided to hold all first-round games tomorrow.”

Little League consults with WeatherBug's team of certified meteorologists to make any weather related decisions. Playing all eight games on Friday, August 21 allows the Little League International Tournament Committee to keep the planned off-day on Friday, August 28 in the event of potential future weather issues.

The Little League International Complex, gift shops, concessions, and all facilities on the complex will close at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 20. The complex and all parking areas will reopen on Friday, August 21 at 8 a.m. Opening Ceremonies will not be rescheduled.
