The 2014 Little League Baseball® World Series was full of amazing stories. From Chicago's Jackie Robinson West team making their impressive run to the Championship Game to Dave Belisle's inspirational speeches to Seoul Little League keeping South Korea's World Series winning streak alive, capturing the countries third World Series Championship Banner in their third appearance. And another story that caught the nation's attention was the Taney Youth Baseball Association Little League's on-field and off-field performance, including their female starting pitcher, Mo'ne Davis.
Ms. Davis had an impressive World Series on the mound for Taney Little League, throwing 14 strikeouts and only allowing three earned runs in 8 1/3 innings pitched. An honor student and multi-sport athlete, her poise and performance has garnered her national recognition. And while she became the first Little Leaguer® to be featured on a Sports Illustrated cover earlier this summer, she is now appearing on a second cover, as Sports Illustrated Kids "Sportskid of the Year."
You can read about Ms. Davis' "Sportskid of the Year" honors on SIKids.com. The magazine will present Ms. Davis with the award on Monday, December 8 at Lincoln Financial Field during an event with 200 other Philadelphia-area middle school students. The day's activities will center around the importance of healthy eating and exercise with players from the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, and Sports Illustrated Managing Editor Chris Stone.
