Southwest beat Latin America 7-4 in seven innings on Saturday at Bangor, Maine behind John Doxakis, who went 2-4.
He doubled in the first inning and singled in the second inning. Joe Gobillot got the win for Southwest. He allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings. Gobillot struck out six, walked four and gave up four hits.
Mairion Brunken couldn't get it done on the mound for Latin America, taking a loss. He allowed seven runs in 5 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out six.
Southwest went up for good in the first, scoring two runs on a two-run double by Doxakis.
One Latin America run crossed the plate in the top half of the second, making the score 2-1. A wild pitch sparked Latin America's rally. But, Gobillot got Jerson Dometilia to to end the inning.
Southwest quickly matched Latin America's strong inning with a four-run inning of its own in the second. Southwest scored on an RBI single by Jimmy Winston, , an RBI single by Jacob Millender, and a wild pitch.
After pushing across three runs in the top of the sixth, Latin America faced just a 7-4 deficit. An RBI single by Rodolfo Rodriguez and a two-run single by Zaino Henriquez set off Latin America rally. Finally, Winston got Nathanael Makaya to strike out to end the threat.
