Little League Softball® Partners with Softball Excellence for Coaching Resources
The thousands of men and women who volunteer their time as Little League Softball® coaches will have additional resources available to help improve the Little League® experience for more than 350,000 softball players. For 75 years, Little League has relied on the dedication of volunteer coaches. To continue to provide resources for these volunteers, Little League has partnered with the coaches educational resource, Softball Excellence, which will provide Little League-specific materials for softball coaches.
Little League coaches will be able to access coaching courses designed specifically for Little League volunteers by Softball Excellence founder, Cindy Bristow. From youth to collegiate to international to professional softball, Ms. Bristow is one of the foremost experts on the sport, and previously served as the President of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and as Director of Development for the International Softball Federation.
“Little League Softball is one of the best ways for girls to get involved in our sport,” said Ms. Bristow. “I’m excited to work with Little League and its dedicated volunteers to help improve the on-field performance of the players and improve the Little League Softball experience.”
The Softball Excellence Coaching Courses for Little League will include seven levels of photo and video tutorials, from basic to advanced, to educate coaches on everything from pitching mechanics, to practice planning and offensive and defensive strategies. The online courses, which include practical advice that can translate directly to practice and game situations, will be available in mid-January for $17.95 per course.
Celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2014, Little League Softball has five divisions, with playing opportunities for children ages 4 to 18. Four of those divisions (Little League, Junior League, Senior League and Big League) include an international tournament, culminating in a World Series tournament. For millions of girls around the world, Little League Softball has been a catalyst for forging lifelong friendships and developing strong community leaders. Through camaraderie and competition, Little League Softball provides a healthy, safe outlet for girls to learn the values of sportsmanship, citizenship and teamwork through on the field activity.
“Coaches are an important part to the success and enjoyment of the girls who play Little League Softball,” said Sara Thompson, Little League Softball Development Director. “The online clinics developed by Softball Excellence will help give our volunteers the tools they need to improve on-field play, win more games and create a better atmosphere for Little League Softball players.”
