In the Aikin household in St. Augustine, Fla., it was mom, Robyn, who urged her son, Brad, to play baseball. Little League® Baseball and Softball is recognizing her dedication with the 2013 Little League Mom of the Year award.

“I’m a jock, I played ball as a young girl,” said Ms. Aikin. “So I encouraged my son to play Little League from an early age.”

Ms. Aikin, an owner of a tax business and a full-time student, majoring in forensic accounting, and her husband, Jim, an Army veteran, have found the time to make sure Brad gets to both his spring and fall Little League practices and games.

“I look at it as part of the job of being a mom,” said Ms. Aikin. “Little League is just one of the things that we have to make time for. God, family and baseball are a big part of our lives.”

For the past five years, no matter how busy her life has been, Ms. Aikin has made sure that Brad has had the best Little League experience possible. For these reasons, she has been named as the 2013 Little League Mom of the Year Award recipient.

“My mom is the reason I play baseball,” wrote Brad in his nomination essay. “I wish she could come to more games this season because she loves baseball so much and loves to watch me play, but she has to work hard so we can have a house and clothes and to be able to buy my baseball stuff.”

Since 1991, this honor has been bestowed as a symbolic form of recognition and tribute to the millions of mothers in communities around the globe who contribute their time and effort to the Little League program.

“Around the world, Little League moms spend countless hours coaching, volunteering and supporting their Little Leaguers,” said Stephen D. Keener, Little League President and CEO. “It’s an honor to pay tribute to all of our moms, and especially Ms. Aikin, with this year’s Mom of the Year award.”

“We have always wished that we could come to the Little League Baseball® World Series, and are very excited to have this chance,” said Ms. Aikin. “I am just so honored to receive this honor.”

Ms. Aikin will be recognized at a ceremony during the 67th Little League Baseball World Series, which begins on Thursday, Aug. 15 in South Williamsport, Pa., with the Championship Game scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25. The Little League Awards Breakfast will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22. For more information on the Series and to follow the action live, visit llbws.org
