Little League® Urban Initiative Jamboree Comes to Stockton, California
Little League® Baseball and Softball will hold its Northern California Urban Initiative Jamboree at the Stockton, Calif. Eastern Little League Fields from May 17-19. One of nine Urban Initiative Jamborees being held throughout the United States this year, it is the first of two jamborees focused on softball, the second will be the Northwest Jamboree in Portland, Ore. from May 31-June 2.
The girls participating in the Northern California Jamboree will take part in a weekend of games and other special events at no cost to their local league. Crystl Bustos, two-time Olympic gold medalist with Team USA softball, will lead an instructional clinic for the attending Little Leaguers, as well.
“We are thrilled that we are able to host these softball players and give them a chance to compete and learn with their peers from across the area,” Dee Dee Martinez, California District 8 Administrator, said. “Having Crystl here to help these girls is a tremendous addition to a great weekend. Not only is she an excellent instructor, but she’s a perfect example of someone who knows what it’s like to come from an area in need and be successful in softball and in life.”
Ms. Bustos is an avid supporter of the Little League Urban Initiative. A native of Canyon Country, Calif., she helped the U.S. Olympic softball team win the gold medal in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. She also holds the record for most home runs during an Olympic series with six. A Little League veteran, Ms. Bustos is a much sought-after clinician and speaker as a part of her GotBustos? LLC Sports Training.
At the end of the weekend, all the participants will leave with a lifetime of memories, and one team will own the championship banner. The Jamboree Awards Presentation will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 12:30 p.m. with special guest Tony the Tiger. Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes® is the Official Breakfast Food of Little League, and a proud sponsor of the Little League Urban Initiative. The championship game is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 19. Learn more about this year’s Urban Initiative Jamborees
