Little League’s Southwestern Region has nominated one of its members for election to the Little League International Board of Directors, it was announced today by Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer of Little League Baseball and Softball. The election took place recently in a vote by the region’s District Administrators.

Joe Patterson, of Seguin, Texas, will replace Camilla Serrano, from Albuquerque, N.M., on the board when her term expires in Nov. 2013. His nomination is subject to the approval of the Little League International Board of Directors at its spring meeting in April 2013. If approved, Mr. Patterson will be seated on the Little League International Board of Directors when the 24-member Board meets in November.

Nine Field Directors, one from each of the nine Little League Baseball and Softball regions, hold seats on the board.

“Mr. Patterson has been a Little League volunteer for more than three decades at various levels, and understands the commitment it takes to make the Little League experience positive and prosperous for his leagues and district,” Mr. Keener said. “The diversity in the experience and background of all our board members is a great asset in advancing the mission of our program. Mr. Patterson has a varied background in our organization and we look forward to his contributions as a member of the board.”

Mr. Patterson, a father of four, has been associated with Little League for 32 years. He spent his first 11 years at the local league level, serving as a team manager for six years, and later serving as league president for five years.

At the district level, Mr. Patterson served as an Assistant District Administrator for two years prior to his election as Texas District 31 Administrator in 1986. For the past 26 years, he has overseen the operation of 17 leagues. During his tenure, he has attended seven Little League International Congresses. Mr. Patterson served on Little League International’s Advisory Committee for the years (2007-10).

A Logistics Buyer for Continental Automotive Group (CAG), Mr. Patterson has been employed by CAG for 40 years. He also currently serves as the Chairman of the Seguin Independent School Diversity Committee; Assistant Chairman of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement Division’s Diversity Committee; and Vice Chairman for the Martin Luther King Committee of Seguin. He is a former Chairman of the Seguin Chamber of Commerce, and Seguin Parks Board; and past board member of the Central Texas Technical Learning Center.

“I am looking forward to serving as a board member for Little League International,” Mr. Patterson said. “I am motivated to contribute to that future as a member of the Board of Directors, and, as best I can, I want to represent the Southwestern Region district administrators who also supported me for this position. It will be an honor to serve the organization in this position.”

In 2012, in the Southwestern Region, there were 231,270 Little League players on 15,418 teams in seven states.
