Darlene McLaughlin Nominated to Represent Canada on Little League International Board of Directors
The Little League Canadian Region has nominated one of its experienced volunteer leaders for election to the Little League International Board of Directors, it was announced by Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer of Little League Baseball and Softball. The election took place at the Canada Regional Round Table meeting last weekend in Calgary, Alberta.
Darlene McLaughlin, of Calgary, is nominated to replace Douglas MacKenzie, from Sydney, Nova Scotia. Mrs. McLaughlin is expected to assume her seat on the Little League International Board of Directors at its November 2012 annual meeting.
Each of the nine Field Directors on the board, one from each of the nine Little League Baseball and Softball regions, serves a three-year term.
“Because of the diversity of her Little League experience and her background, Mrs. McLaughlin will be a great asset to our board,” Mr. Keener said. “She has been a committed Little League volunteer leader for many years, successfully building new, and overseeing existing programs in her area, as a District Administrator.”
Mrs. McLaughlin has been associated with Little League in numerous capacities for more than 20 years. She initially got involved with Little League when her son, Mark, began playing in Calgary’s Continental West Little League at age 5. After three years as the league Secretary, Mrs. McLaughlin served as league President for 18 months before turning her attention to the district.
In 1996, Mrs. McLaughlin, who has lived in Calgary for 25 years, began a seven-year tenure as the Assistant District Administrator for Alberta District 8. In 2003, she was selected to be the District Administrator in District 8, a position she currently holds.
Mrs. McLaughlin has been married to husband, Gary, for 30 years. She works as a Project Coordinator for Secure Energy Services, a company that focuses on providing specialized services to oil and natural gas companies.
Born and raised in Chateauguay, Quebec, just outside Montreal, Mrs. McLaughlin played nine years of Little League Baseball in the local league.
“I would like to thank all the DAs in Canada for their support and confidence in my nomination,” Mrs. McLaughlin said. “I look forward to working with the Board to continue the development, administration and expansion of Little League. For me, children are what gets you started, community is what keeps you going and the love of the game stays forever.”
In Canada last year (2011), there were 47,445 Little League baseball and softball players on 3,163 teams. The Little League Canada Region Headquarters is located in Ottawa, Ontario.
The Little League International Board of Directors, a volunteer board, is responsible for the management of the property and affairs of Little League Baseball, Incorporated.
