Birmingham, Ala., defeats Schenectady, N.Y., 1 - 0, in one of only two 1-0 finals in World Series history

Joey Jay, who played Little League in Middletown, Conn., becomes the first former Little Leaguer to reach the Major Leagues when he plays his first game on July 21 for the Milwaukee Braves. Jay would go on to enjoy a 13-year MLB career leading the National League in wins in 1961 as a member of the Cincinnati Reds.
